Best Day EVER!!!!!

Hello to all! Hope everyone has been doing well the past couple of weeks. Sorry for my abscence, but this comprehensive exam is ruining my life. Only 9 more days till I take the damn thing! I wanted to share some AWESOME news with everyone!!! I got the internship I applied for at the Art and Science of Health Promotion Conference!! This means that as long as I get my arse to Hilton Head, SC the week of March 15, I get to stay in a BEAUTIFUL hotel for really cheap, learn tons about health promotion in the workplace, and network my booty off!!!!

I seriously haven’t been this excited for a long time! Isn’t life a beautiful thing, just when your down, it picks you back up!

As far as workouts go, I’m trying to get 3-4 hours of cardio in a week, 4 days of hot yoga, and am newly reincorporating tummy exercises because, no lie, my belly has been bulging a bit lately.  It’s kind of empowering though because as much as I am not happy with my tummy currently (and have also gained some lbs. as of late) I don’t change anything. I know I’m healthy, I workout enough, and I eat right. It makes me happy to know drastic measures will never again be in my vocabulary. I LOVE IT!!!

Well that’s it from me! I hope to get back on a more regular schedule here sometime soon! I love you guys so much and I miss you!! I really couldn’t wait to share my great news with you all!!!!

From Noodle

Sorry my mom has not blogged in forever! She has been sooooo busy with school and getting stressed, but don’t worry I am taking good care of her. She will be back soon though! Xoxo Noodle

Avocadon’t? (Man, I’m Hilarious)

Today has been crazy filled with comp test preparation and on top of that I have a terrible tummy ache, I got one yesterday too. The final verdict about what happened. 2 days, 2 debilitating tummy aches around 2 o’clock (lasting for hours), and the only change in diet is I had avocados with both lunches. OMG this makes me very angry because I love avocados! But I do rarely eat them, so it makes sense that I might not have noticed this before. I have a lot of tummy issues, so now add avocados to the “do not eat list”. Boo.

Well I just wanted to fill you all in really quick, my posts might start to dwindle here in the next few weeks because I am so busy with test prep. I am also thinking about changing my formatting a bit. Hmmmmm.

I may post later if I get some free time! Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Killer Arm Workout

Good morning to all! Hope everyone had a fabulous Saturday! Mine was filled with school stuff, working out, and quality time with my man.  I’m just gonna do a quick photo rundown because I have to get back to the books today, bummer!!

Food Rundown:

Breakfast: Same old oats! (sorry for no picture)

Snack: Since I get up later on weekends I typically don’t need a snack before lunch.

Sauteed tofu taco with chickpeas, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and salsa on an ezekiel tortilla. Pear on the side and 2 vegan oatmeal raisin pb cookies

Apple Pie PranaBar. I did not particularly like this bar, it had a weird texture and it wasn't very filling

Shrimpy mixture made by Joey, SOOO GOOD!!

My plate!

Joey whipped up some homemade zucchini bread with cranberry and walnuts. OMG, I'm one lucky girl!

One Crazy Saturday Night:

Party Bag: Pimped out version of Scrabble and some Crios Malbec

Yeah, it's got a built in lazy susan!

And a hardcover bound scoring sheets

In deep thought

Enjoying the wine

Gym Time:

Yesterday I hit up the gym for my weight training exercise. For arms I did this workout from Tracey Anderson (Madonna and Gwyneth’s trainer)  that I saw on IHeartWellness. It only involves 5 pound weights and whoa!!! it was hard!! I did 3 sets of 20 reps each exercise.

For legs I did the same type of routine, 3 sets of 20 reps each for:

Leg Press Machine

Leg Press Machine using one leg at a time

Using leg press machine to do calf raises

One-leg squats

2 minute wallsit (just did this at 3 separate time)

It was quite an intense workout. I also did a 10 minute elliptical warmup, and 5 minute cooldown.

Speaking of gym stuff, this week I need to start incorporating ab workouts back into my daily routine, my abs are gone! eek!

Also today I made my meal plan for the week and did a little grocery shopping already, gotta hit up the natural food mart later though. Here’s the plan:

Monday Lunch Tempeh burrito wrap & veggie
Dinner Zucchini with almond soy sauce & bread
Tuesday Lunch Tomato & Eggplant Sammy & veggie
Dinner Naan Pizza (with tempeh)
Wednesday Lunch Leftover Pizza
Dinner Sprouted Spaghetti and Tempeh
Thursday Lunch “Chicken” Sammy & veggies
Dinner Bean Burritos with veggies
Friday Lunch PB & J
Dinner ??

Well that’s all I got for today! Hope everyone has a great Sunday and hope you are off workout tomorrow like me! (well off school)!! It makes for a much more fun Sunday evening 🙂

Give Me A Break!

Happy Saturday to all! Hope everyone had a wonderful Friday. I decided to take a little study break and blog! Blogging is so wonderful because it gives me time for myself, but I still feel like I’m being productive, it’s the best of both worlds!

Yesterday was a fun and productive day for myself. I worked a bunch on my comps (geez my life is fun!), hit up some hot yoga (more on this later), and had a wonderful dinner with my man! We watched a couple more episodes of Mad Men (is it me or is Jon Hamm one of the sexiest EVER!! Meow!!) and just relaxed. It’s pretty much our Friday night ritual, because we are typically exhausted by the time we make it to Friday night. Also, we usually have to get up early Saturdays to start working on homework so we need a good nights sleep. I seriously cannot wait until I get a real job so I can relax on the weekends! Schools is a 7 day a week job, especially grad school, and honestly I’m pretty tired of it! It is def one reason why I need an outlet, and my outlet of choice is exercise! That leads us to:

Gym Time:

As I said yesterday I went to hot yoga, it was great (even though my balance was a little off yesterday).  But I love this class because every time at the beginning they remind you not to judge yourself (no one else is) and that everyday is different.  I think that is an important mantra to apply to life in general.  We always think others are judging us, and that’s simply not true. It is kind of funny how being overly critical of yourself and thinking others are is inevitably being a bit self-centered. We assume that we are “that important” that others are constantly thinking about how we look, our size, etc. The funny part is that is the exact opposite of how most women are (the self-centered part I mean). So it makes it easier to put myself in check when I think of it like that. If I go out one day thinking, omg everyone is going to hate my hair today, its like “ok jill, no one probably cares about your hair” haha.

I also did 30 minutes on the elliptical,  level 12, interval.

Food Rundown:

Seedy Pumpkin Raisin Oats and Chocolate Marshmallow Coffee

Oats: 1/2 cup steel cut oats (made with 1 cup water), 1/4 cup raisins, cinnamon to taste, 1/4 cup pumpkin, 1 spoonful barney butter, 1 tbsp chia seed meal, and 1 tbsp flax seed meal

Snack: Unpictured Apple Pie LaraBar

PB & J on an Ezekiel English Muffin & a Pear

Confession, this is the first time I have ever had a pear on its own (like eating it like an apple). It was delish!

Carrot sticks with Roasted Red Pepper Hummus & a Seeded Spelt Dr. Kracker

Sunshine Burger Topped with Red Onion, Tomato, Lettuce, Avocado, Vegan Cheddar, and Ketchup with Sweet Potato Fries!!

Check Me Out!!! YUMM!!

My Joey Posing with Our Wine: A Delicious Crios Malbec

Ezekiel Tortilla with Melted Raw Honey & Cacao Chips

I also was inspired by Miss Love Veggies and Yoga and tried out another raw cookie recipe.  This week’s Raw Vegan Oatmeal Raisin. All I had to do was mix the ingredient in my food processor:

6 dates

1/4 cup raisins

1/2 cup oatmeal

dash of vanilla extract

1 tsp cinnamon

Then I hit a little mis-step.  All my ingredients were mixed, but they weren’t making a dough, it was just dust! Boo! So I decided to add about 4 tbsp of peanut butter and voila!

Raw Vegan Oatmeal Raisin PB Cookies

They were quite tasty (although not as good as last week’s raw vegan chocolate chip cookie dough balls)! I think I am going to start making a batch of vegan cookies every weekend!

Well I best get back to work! Today I am going to hit up the gym and lift weights! That is, after I try out one of the bars that I won from Monica On the Go!! Yay! I got my package yesterday and it made my day! 🙂 Also tonight Joey is making something shrimpy and delicious for dinner (I’m spoiled!). Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend? I need people to live vicariously through!! ha.

Being An Athlete

Good morning to all! Hope everyone ad a wonderful Thursday! Can you believe it’s Friday?!? I can’t remember the last time I was so excited for the weekend!! And tonight is Joey and my 1 year 4 months (yes, we still keep track, but we don’t really do anything besides wish each other a happy anniversary). But I am making dinner tonight: veggie burgers, sweet potato fries, and raw vegan oatmeal raisin cookies! yum!

As for the title of my blog today, is it me or does anyone else thrive on being an athlete? I guess a better start, what makes someone an athlete? Although I don’t really play a particular sport, I fully consider myself one.  I think of an athlete as someone who is willing to push themselves, especially through some pain, to get the results they want. I pride myself on being able to push myself with the best of them in the gym, or in the yoga room.  For instance, doing all of this hot yoga can really be intense and strenuous, but seeing the outcome in your mind gets you through it.  Knowing that you can do these types of things gives me a lot of self-confidence too (I guess that’s one reason it’s so important to have children involved in sports activities).  When you are involved in sports I think it makes you want to do things the “right” way too. You have to learn how to fuel your body correctly.  I wasn’t an athlete in my past because although I was working out, I wasn’t able/willing to push myself because I was either starving myself or overindulging so much that my body couldn’t get in sync with my mind.

All that being said, being an athlete you must know when to push yourself (pain for results as opposed to too much pain and hurting yourself).  I went on a little jog last night (20 minutes at 6.5 because I haven’t run in a few weeks) and near the end I started having really intense knee pain again. I actually am pretty positive I somehow retore something in my knee (I had a past ski injury where I tore my MCL in both my knees and additionally my ACL and meniscus in my right knee), blah.  This being said I have to make the smart decision (although it’s hard), to stay off the treadmill for a long time (luckily the elliptical doesn’t bother me).  Hopefully this will improve on it’s own because I really don’t want to do any more knee doctoring!! But I’ll be sure to keep you posted.  Overall, just know that an athlete listens to their body, but doesn’t let there injuries get in their way (i.e. elliptical/yoga-ing/other outlets).  We just never stop 🙂

Is Dana Torres a badass or what?!

Food Rundown:

Seedy Banana Pumpkin BB Oats

Snack: Red Delicious apple

Part 1: Green Monster, I actually am turning against these things, I don't know why, but I couldn't even finish this

Part 2: "Chicken" sammy on ezekiel english muffin and vegan cheddar

Sauteed tofu & onion tacos (ezekiel tortilla), broccoli, carrots and roasted red pepper hummus, and a dr. hansen ginger ale

Crunchy Flax Cereal with raisins, unsweetened coconut in almond milk

Well today will be filled with some hot yoga, homework, and making dinner/watching MadMen with Joey! It should be a good day! Hope everyone else has a happy Friday!

No Photos

Good Morning! So when I was trying to upload my photos this morning something weird happened and they were deleted!! Boo!!!! I guess my computer picked a good day to mess up though because I just had some leftovers yesterday: other half of loaded sweet potato for lunch and quinoa/buckwheat/green spaghetti sauce for dinner. Yesterday was also a little more of the same old thing with schoolwork and meetings. I also hit up a hot yoga class and did 30 minutes of elliptical in the morning. I have a lady doctor apt this morning so especially because of my photo mishap I don’t have much time to blog! So I hope everyone has a lovely day and I promise to bring some more excitement tomorrow!

Anyone else excited for Project Runway tonight?!?!?
